The mural on the side of The Commercial pub is one of a number of murals and art installations commissioned by Herefordshire Council at a cost of £204,000 in a bid to create a new public art trail.
The artwork on the side of The Commercial was created by Nomad Clan, and was only unveiled in 2024.
The whimsical mural featured Arthur’s Stone at Dorstone, a 5,000-year-old Neolithic tomb.
But the damage has seen a large portion of the render upon which the mural was painted fall from the wall, leaving a large area of bare brick behind in the middle of the artwork.
The other artworks on the trail include:
- Street artwork at The Herdsman pub on the corner of Widemarsh Street and the A438 Blue School Street (Curtis Hylton)
- Street artwork at Bastion Mews off UnionStreet (Emmeline North)
- Street artwork at Brewer’s Passage off Commercial Street (SNIK)
- Passageway artwork at Booth Hall, East Street (Gemma Flowers)
- Passageway artwork at Capuchin Lane, between High Town and East Street (Dermot Clarke)
- Passageway artwork at Mansion House Walk off Widemarsh Street (Luke Passey)
- Passageway artwork at Union Walk (Estee Alleno-Powell)
- “Graphic rewilding” at Eign Gate underpass
