Celebrity dentist and star of the Real Housewives of Cheshire, Dr Hanna Kinsella, has issued a warning about using tooth art on kids and gave her top tips to key oral hygiene
A celebrity dentist has laid bare concerns surrounding tooth art for kids following a recent social media post by Kim Kardashian. Taking to Instagram, Kim confided the “tooth fairy has been good to us” as she showcased her son Saint’s latest tooth loss.
In the post, the mum-of-four gushed over her nine-year-old child’s milestone. She also shared snaps of her other kids, North, 12, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6, showing off their evolving smiles.
In the images, the youngsters were seen sporting Hello Kitty and Louis Vuitton tooth gems and custom grills. It led to some followers questioning the safety of such accessories.

Now, Dr Hanna Kinsella, has exclusively told the Mirror of the risks involved with the looks. The celebrity dentist and star of Real Housewives of Cheshire told us: “Although tooth jewels aren’t in themselves dangerous you also need to consider that adhesive is used to apply them, which if used by an inexperienced person this could be dangerous if it was applied to the wrong area such as lips or gums by accident.”
She added: “Over time jewelled gems on teeth and caps may wear the enamel of the tooth away, increasing the risk of tooth decay and infection.
“Also, dental jewels can affect your ability to clean teeth properly, meaning that it can be an ideal place for food and bacteria to hide, resulting in increased risk of tooth decay and cavities.
“The adhesive that’s used to stick the gem on can also lead to discolouration of the tooth. Also, it’s concerning that they are often applied at home, resulting in a lack of regulation and guidance meaning there’s more scope for things to go wrong and damage to the teeth to be done.”
However, Hanna, who is also the founder of Icy Bear Dental Care, admitted: “As a dentist and a mum, I think it’s great when celebrities like Kim Kardashian shine a spotlight on children’s health, especially something as often overlooked as teeth.
“With such a wide reach, it’s important that the advice being shared is accurate. Celebrity posts can help raise awareness, but they can also unintentionally cause confusion.
“The key is starting healthy habits early and making sure we’re protecting our children’s smiles, and not just decorating them.”
And she gave her top tips to parents with youngsters for ideal oral care. It included making sure kids don’t clean their teeth directly after eating due to the damage it could cause to tooth enamel. Instead, she recommends waiting 30 minutes.
Hanna also urged parents to “start dental visits early”. She said: “Book your child into the dentist as soon as they have their first teeth so that they can get to know the dentist and enjoy the process.”
