POST FALLS — An exhibit that celebrates the transformative power of art while honoring a beloved local artist and musician gone too soon will mark its fourth year when it opens at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center in Post Falls.
“Art Uplifts” was created in memory of Jimmy Magnuson, a prolific creator and friend to many who passed May 17, 2021, at age 36. The show is a celebration of the healing power of art and the resilience of people in the community. The works on display represent journeys of hope, healing and courage. The philosophy of the show is, “Art has the power to uplift us and help us navigate life’s challenges: recovery, grief, loss, diagnosis and more. No matter the struggle, situation or journey, art can uplift us all.”
Magnuson, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, was a graduate of Selkirk College in Nelson, B.C., where he earned a degree in contemporary music and technology, and then later an Associate of Science in Studio Production Engineering from IPR in Minneapolis. He loved to spread the joy of music by performing in many different bands, as well as recording local musicians, and he made many friendships along the way.
He also created hundreds of vibrant and colorful oil paintings. His artistic vision was full of energy, beauty and curiosity. He took great happiness in sharing his art with his family and friends.
Over 50 amateur and professional artists will participate in this exhibition, in mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor, ceramic, alcohol inks, fabric and sculpture. “Art Uplifts” will remain open through July 26 during regular business hours, concerts and public events at the JACC.
This family-friendly community art event is free to attend.
The JACC is at 405 N. William St., Post Falls.
