NORTH SIMCOE ART AND CULTURE AWARDS

The newly reworked North Simcoe Art and Culture Awards nomination period is now closed, and organizers are thrilled to report that a record 27 nominations have been received in the five categories of this beloved awards event.
“Having expanded to the Midland/Tiny/Tay area, with a new partnership, and rewording of the awards categories, we weren’t sure what the response would be, so we are absolutely over the moon with the record-breaking 27 nominations!” said Kelsey Nicholls, co-organizer of the awards, North Simcoe Arts’ Communications Coordinator.
Fellow awards organizer Anna Proctor, of North Simcoe life online magazine, added, “In fact, because we had a few nominees who were nominated by more than one person, our grand total was even higher. Congratulations to all of our wonderful nominees!”
Nominations for this year’s North Simcoe Art and Culture Awards are as follows:
Youth Voice Award sponsored by Marshmellow: Lucy Goodman and Kamdyn Caputo.
Equity and Inclusion Award sponsored by Adam Chambers: Champagne Top’Her; Call to Action #83 Art Project; Aaron Sheedy for the film ScapeGOAT; Amy-Rae Miller; Alasoba Kelsy-Braide; and Kate Hilliard.
Creative Experience Award sponsored by Orillia and Lake Country Tourism: Lightfoot Days Festival; Gordon Lightfoot Exhibit at Orillia Museum of Art and History; Starry Night; Orillia Scottish Festival; and Indigenous Art & Culture Awareness Week (Event by the Town of Midland and Community Partners).
Community Impact Award sponsored by Arts Orillia: Whitney Newton; Sabrina Dodgson-Sturrup; Lesley Truemner; Jessica Allen; Sukhi Kaur; Carolyn Boyd; Streets Alive Artists; and Peter Fyfe and John Notten.
Finally, the nominees for the Qennefer Browne Achievement Award, sponsored by the Browne family, are: John French; Xavier Fernandes; Dave Walker; Lucia McGarvey; Jan Novak; and Vangi Patton.
The anonymous jury will now deliberate and the winners in each category will be announced on Nov. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Creative Nomad Studios in Orillia. The free event will feature networking time, videos of each nominee by Shawn Streeter Media, as well as charcuterie boards from Rind and Truckle, sponsored by Csumrick and Associates, and a cash bar.
The North Simcoe Art and Culture Awards are co-produced by North Simcoe Arts and North Simcoe life online magazine. The Presenting Title sponsor is eCapital, and the City of Orillia also supports the awards.
“We are looking forward to seeing the arts community come out to celebrate all of these wonderful nominees at the event on Nov. 26,” said Nicholls. “See you there.”
