Daniel Klewer is an abstract painter known for pushing the limits of paint as a material. A native of Milwaukee, Klewer earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay and a Master of Arts in Visual Studies from Cardinal Stritch University. His practice centers on a brushless technique that emphasizes texture, tone, and physical presence.
“Light and color are driving forces in my work,” Klewer shares. “Primarily using a brushless paint application that stretches the paint’s physical qualities, the textured surfaces of the paintings document investigations into the relationship between paintings and sculpture. My work … reflects my pursuit of painting as a contemplative, perceptual experience. The composition and colors explore how surfaces can communicate a story.”
Over the years, Klewer’s distinctive visual language has earned him numerous accolades, including First Place at both the SECURA Fine Arts Exhibition at the Trout Museum and the 71st Art Annual at the Neville Public Museum. He’s been featured in national exhibitions like Borders Visible/Invisible in New York.
His latest solo exhibition, Rhythm and Flow, is on exhibit on the Art & Light Gallery website and in-gallery in Greenville’s Village at West End. An opening reception will be held Friday, July 11, from 6:00–8:00 PM.
