The excitement is always palpable on the opening night preview of Salon Art+Design in New York City. Now in its 14th year, the annual fair never fails to draw a crowd to the Park Avenue Armory every fall with a dazzling mix of art and collectible design treasures spanning centuries—from rare antiquities to contemporary craft. Produced by Sanford L. Smith + Associates with director Nicky Dessources, this year’s edition brings together 47 exhibitors from around the world, including Liz O’Brien, Maison Gerard, Twenty First Gallery, Ateliers Courbet, and Hostler Burrows.
To help navigate the booths and their myriad treasures, we went to the ELLE Decor A-Listers involved with the fair and asked them to share what they’re most excited to see. Check out the list below—and stop by the fair through Sunday, November 10, to see them for yourself.

“I’ve been dreaming of owning a piece by Joaquim Tenreiro, the Brazilian pioneer of modernism. I always speak about beauty and functionality coming together in design. He did it so well. Simple, spectacular pieces. Believe it or not, simple is hard to do well. His chaise is at the top of my list. It’s a dream. Beautifully crafted, elegant, soft , great use of materials, timeless, and just plain striking.”

A Eugene Printz cabinet at Crosta Smith Gallery.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the beautiful Eugene Printz cabinet that Crosta Smith Gallery will be showing. It’s a rare piece from around 1930, gold leaf with red lacquer done by frequent collaborator Jean Dunand. At about a century old, it’s the epitome of timeless elegance, beautiful scale and materiality, rich but restrained in line and not overly ornamented—for me, this piece will never be anything but perfect. Put it on a rocket 200 years into the future, it will still feel perfect.”

The 18th-century Noh mask from Carole Davenport.
“I selected the 18th-century Noh mask from Carole Davenport Japanese Art. It’s hauntingly beautiful and otherworldly—but also simply haunting. There’s a refinement and stylization to it that feels almost uncanny, as if its elegance transcends its age. I have one that appears similar yet subtly different, as though each mask carries its own story—its own passage through time—arriving perfectly on time, at this very moment.”
Oliver Furth
Head of Apollo at Ariadne.
“I’m coveting the 1st-century Roman Marble Head of Apollo from Ariadne. This sculpture, crafted from creamy marble, was created in same the time as Christ’s birth, and the same year Rome transitioned from republic to empire—poignant metaphors to today’s turbulent climate. Apollo is the mythological god of truth, music, and healing; all gifts that we would welcome in current times. Plus with that strong jawline and flowing hair, he’s quite handsome!”
Young Huh
Mia Jung cloud mirror at Charles Burnand.
“I would love the Mia Jung cloud mirror at the Charles Burnand Gallery. It is a beautiful work of art that is ethereal and tactile at once and would look amazing in our projects. Charles Burnand always has such unique and beautiful works.”
Shawn Henderson
Pyrion Collection by Shawn Henderson + Mike Rupp.
“Hostler Burrows represents the Pyrion Collection, which are a series of lamps design by Mike Rupp and me. I’m super excited to see these at this year’s Salon of Art + Design show—the first time we’ve had something exhibited at a design fair. The lamps are incredibly special and unique—made of a liquid metal with custom shades using Verdi fabric.”
Alfredo Paredes
Midnight Tulip by Ian Milnes at Charles Burnand.
Paredes chose Midnight Tulip, a lighting pendant by designer Ian Milnes made of sycamore, walnut, cherry, and resin. It can be found at Charles Burnand’s booth. “I am fascinated by the sense of movement, though as a light fixture it’s stationary,” says Paredes.
