Art And Elegance Meet At The Loren Hotel Austin

Since its 2022 opening, The Loren Hotel Austin has been reimagining what a hotel can do to bring art and community together as it strives to create bespoke experiences for its guests. Located in the heart of downtown Austin, the eight-story hotel is home to an art collection that celebrates local, national, and international artists. Works by Sarah Braman, Liam Gillick, Olafur Eliasson, and Karl Blossfeldt are among those in the hotel’s impressive art collection.

The Loren Austin recently renovated and reopened the Paggi House, an Austin landmark that is now home to a rotating art exhibition and event space for local organizations and charities.

The Contemporary Austin, The Blanton, and the Ellsworth Kelly Chapel bring art lovers to Austin, and the city is full of artists and art galleries. With its fascinating history, preserved architectures, and rotating art exhibitions, Paggi House is now also a destination for art lovers that contributes to this thriving, dynamic art scene.

Also, now through the end of December, the Paggi House is home to the art exhibition, “Anything But Paint.” This art exhibition showcases the work of 11 artists, including three local Austin artists, who “challenge traditional hierarchies of material and meaning”.

Penny Liebman Aaron, curator for Paggi House, revealed in a statement, “These artists are transforming everyday materials into art—from salvaged piano keys to embroidered denim to folded paper. It’s exactly the kind of boundary-pushing work we love to showcase at Paggi House.”

The art on display in “Anything But Paint” is varied. Some works of art challenge people’s perceptions and the boundaries between utility and ornament as well as fine art and craft. Others look at cycles of reinvention and human memory.

For the month of October, guests at the Loren Austin are treated to a solo exhibition of the work of Bermudian artist Jahbarri Wilson. The exhibition, “Meet Us In The Onion Patch”, is on display in the Maree Lounge at The Loren.

Jahbarri Wilson’s art exhibition is part of a continuing partnership between Masterworks Museum and The Loren that intends to showcase the work of local artists beyond traditional gallery spaces.

Risa Hunter, Director of Masterworks, explained, “One of our more important roles as a museum is to create more opportunities for artists to share their voices. By extending beyond our own walls and collaborating with partners like The Loren we’re able to provide platforms for Bermudian artists such as Jahbarri to engage new audiences and further their artistic practice.”

Jahbarri Wilson’s artwork feels both intention and spontaneous. He creates art that’s driven by his curiosity about global cultures, the possibilities of art and painting, and his love for his own culture and Bermudian history. Some of the dualities in Wilson’s work include deliberate versus spontaneous; playful versus reflective; and physical versus spiritual.

In addition to fine art displays, the Loren Hotel Austin helps guests feel immersed in Austin culture in other ways, including live music experiences. The hotel is close to the vibrant downtown area, and complimentary e-bikes are available for guests to use.

With its floor-to-ceiling windows, the Loren Austin offers panoramic views of Lady Bird Lake and the Austin skyline. Guests at the Loren Austin can take the beauty of the city in while dining at the rooftop restaurant Nido. It also has a rooftop terrace with an infinity pool.

All 108 art-forward guestrooms and suites have views of the lake or city. In addition to well-curated art, all accommodations have natural stone bathrooms, a gourmet minibar and a Nespresso machine.

Then there’s also the popular onsite Milk + Honey spa with its inviting, tranquil atmosphere. It offers a wide range of massages, facials, and body treatments.
