Rayana Schmitz isn’t afraid to take risks. The Brazilian-born founder of South Florida–based Firefinish Interiors worked as a firefighter for several years before embarking on a career in design. “Rather than prioritizing purely practical forms, I gravitate toward items with expressive, almost experimental shapes,” she tells Business of Home.
Statement-making silhouettes take center stage in her flat lay, while tactile materials and warm, saturated tones ground the scheme. “From softly draped textiles to carved wood and molten glass, each element celebrates movement, craftsmanship and a sense of quiet boldness,” she says. “These are pieces that feel less like objects and more like living forms within a space.”
Fashion-forward details—such as jewelry-inspired stoneware and a fringe-covered chaise longue that evokes a 1920s flapper skirt—infuse the mood board with avant-garde appeal. “Every piece sits at the intersection of art and utility,” says Schmitz. “Even familiar objects like chairs, lighting and vessels are treated as artworks first, with function integrated into their form.”
